2. The next time I gave thought to the atom was in a more structural way as a college chemistry major. The conceptualization of the atom included the nucleus and the electron shell. I am primarily a visual person I learn a lot from viewing something. In this particular case I learned wrong.
I thought those electrons had an orbit and a shell, you can see it in the picture. But the orbit is not real, nor is the shell. These are visualizations of the probability that the electron will be there, not the actual path.
A visualization that resulted in a misunderstanding and became a little bit of concrete thought. It stayed with me for the next 30+ years.
